I can’t make up my mind on a 940. The interior is horribly aged and basic for it’s time, everything about it screams “i’m just a tarted up 240" and “screw engineering, MORE METAL”, but something also pulls me towards it(mostly the rwd)....

Well, considering the interior was designed in the early 80's for the 740, I don’t think it’s too bad. It is also very solid compared to a lot of more modern looking stuff from the era. They didn’t really change much for the 850 either.
On the engineering side, I think Volvo used all their capacity on making great engines and building cars that can drive to the moon and back rather than something that looks modern, but will end up on the scrapyard after 15 years.

The door detents are of the kind that “yes we’re detenting, no, you’re going along with the door, sir.”. I’ve looked at the 850 T5's aswell, cuz they’re cheap and easy 200hp with the usual bulletproof-ish volvo engine, but they do also look to bit eeeeh at times/angles. the v/s70's were a big step foward in good looks, even more so with the facelift in 2000's.
We’ll see if i end up going team volvo or what once the Escort finishes it’s time on the roads this winter. Can’t be too picky when it needs to be cheap aswell :P

God, I love those Amazons. A 123 GT is on the always growing list of cars I’d like to own one day.

Me too, although a later 2-door with a tweaked dual carburetor B20 would do the job as well. My 142 has that engine with one carburetor, it is surprisingly strong in stock form.
